Netflix recently picked up the new Saturday Night Live heavy film, Staten Island Summer. According to reports, the film will be released on July 30, exclusively on the streaming platform. Comedy fans should be pretty excited about this one because it has SNL all over it.
Staten Island Strong was written by Colin Jost, famous for hosting The Weekend Update with Michael Che and prior to that, Cecile Strong. Lorne Michaels is on hand to serve as the producer. The film also has plenty of SNL cast members including Cecily Strong, Will Forte, Kate McKinnon (Life Partners), Bobby Moynihan (The Brass Teapot), and Fred Armisen (Portlandia). Other celebrity appearances include Method Man (Soul Plane, Belly, The Cobbler), Gina Gershon (Face/Off, Bound, Showgirls), Zack Pearlman, Kate Walsh (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice), and Vincent Pastore (Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn, The Family).
In Staten Island Summer, a group of teens are employed at an aquatics center. They decide they want to throw one last summer party, the party of the summer, before they leave for college. You’ll have to watch the film to see if they accomplish their goal, but if they do, I’m sure it doesn’t go off without a hitch.
Staten Island Summer is being offered a limited release in U.S. theaters on July 24 and then will be available on Netflix at the end of this month. You can expect the end of this month to be huge for Netflix. Not only is Staten Island Summer a big pickup for the streaming service on July 30, a day later on July 31, they release Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, which is also going to be huge for the service.
If you’re looking for a way to end your July, you might have just found it!
